It’s certainly not easy trying to get your baby to sleep! At CuddlesKidsBedding.com, we want to help busy mommies get their little ones to bed with ease. Here are 5 tips for easing your little one to sleep, so both you and your child can get some zzz’s.

1.) White Noise: Babies sometimes love the sound of continual background noise. Seriously! White noise can be incredibly soothing to a baby as it can remind him or her of sounds in the womb. Try downloading and playing MP3s or CDs with white noises. It can be just the thing needed to lull your child to sleep.

2.) Something Different: Sometimes, your baby can become uncomfortable in a certain sleeping position. Change things up by cuddling instead of rocking or try having your baby lay on your belly as you lie on your back. There are tons of ways to comfort your child. Be sure that you give baby the time he or she needs to calm down and get back to bed.

3.) Don’t Overfeed: We know you don’t want to underfeed or end up having to feed baby throughout the night, however, be careful not to overfeed. Having a big meal before bed can give baby heartburn or make him or her feel uncomfortable and restless. To avoid discomfort, try feeding your baby small meals several times a day.

4.) Establish a Routine: Babies without routine can often be restless and have trouble getting to sleep. A bedtime routine can help your baby develop good sleeping habits, plus, it’s easier for you! Incorporate soothing and quiet activities to get your baby settled. Just be sure that you stick to the same routine and bedtime, even if it takes a little while to get the hang of it.

5.) Comfort is Key: A fussy baby usually means something’s not right and at bedtime, it’s totally possible that your baby just isn’t comfortable. A warm and cozy baby usually falls asleep much easier, so be sure that you’re dressing your child in appropriate jammies and keep the room warm. Add a nice comfy swaddle blanket to soothe your child as he or she drifts off to dream land.

Mostly A’s: Classic and Cute

You love the look of traditional pinks or blues in your child’s nursery and when shopping for designer crib bedding, be sure to check out crib and cradle bedding sets that are made from simple but luxurious fabrics. Think light wood furniture, toile, bright and open space, a super comfy rocker, and a color scheme to match your baby’s gender. Also, as a cool touch, try adding a simple but pretty radio to your space to play classical music to lull your baby to sleep.

Mostly B’s: Family First

You love to honor your family’s history and heritage, and when your baby arrives, you can’t wait to pass on those values and memories. When shopping for children’s crib bedding or cradle bedding sets, think about how you can incorporate pieces you already have. If you have a handed down for generations pillow, ruffle, or baby blanket, pair it with baby bedding that accents your heirloom. Think simple and soft. As for décor and furniture, look to blend the old with the new. Incorporate treasured family pieces and pictures with modern, clean lined furniture and soft paint colors. Or, choose modern nursery décor paired with antique furniture. The nursery will be both beautiful and eclectic.

Mostly C’s: Bold for Baby

You love to make a statement, you’re adventurous, and you’re so excited to be a mom! Show off your love for the bold, beautiful, and exotic by choosing children’s crib bedding that uses lots of bold color or unexpected fabric or texture. Zebra prints, polka dots, plaid…it all works! Toss out the pastels when it comes to paint color. Go for a bright, unexpected hue like red, orange, or purple. Add a creative lighting fixture like a kid’s room chandelier or a super cool chaise lounge in lieu of a rocking chair. Your baby’s nursery has to pack a punch!

Mostly D’s: Zen Mama

Serenity, calm, and peace. These are words you think of when you think about how it will be to raise your baby. If you’re a zen mama, go for organic children’s crib bedding or cradle bedding sets made from natural fabrics like bamboo. The softness is superb and it’s a sustainable way to begin your baby’s journey. For paint colors, think of soft blues and greens. Accent your space with river stones, Asian-inspired wall treatments, and light window dressings. Also, think about aromatherapy (as long as it’s safe for baby), fun play mats, or a falling water fountain to create an even more serene space.

It’s back to school season and there’s that familiar buzz of store sales, the smell of autumn in the air, and commercials on tv highlighting the “best” back to school gear for the season. But one element that is often overlooked is the importance of preparing your kids for the challenges of leaving the lazy days of summer and being ready to excel in academics, negotate friendships and balance days packed with a full array of activities.

As the first day of school approaches (for some kids), now is the perfect time to instill a predictable routine for your child that helps him psychologically and emotionally prepare for the challenges that await. Children are resilient, but even making a few changes in their daily schedule can help them feel and perform successfully throughout the school season. Listed below are a few tips to help you get your kids on the best track possible. These tips will work for kids of any age. It’s best to use them before school starts, but they can be applied at any time.

1. Set a regular bed time. If your kids are older, they may have spent most of the summer engaged in late night (or early morning) tv watching, texting, video game playing, etc. Experts say that all kids need a substantial number of hours of sleep per night (click here for sleep requirements per age). Setting a regular bedtime allows your child to obtain the required amount of rest needed to mentally attend and retain everything they will be learning at school. It also helps them to focus their attention adequately and helps their bodys’ perform optimally. Establishing a regular bedtime is important for kids of all ages, preschool to late teens.

2. Set regular meal times: Summer time is fun eating time and with that comes an increase in the amount of “junk foods” that kids and familys like to consume. By establishing a regular mealtime, (optimally where the whole family can sit together and eat together) parents have the opportunity to ensure their kids are eating a healthy meal. Now is also a great time to help your kids cut back on sugary foods, caffeine, and junk food.

3. Check In: Make it a point to “check-in” with your children several times a day. Perhaps you already do this, which is great. But it is easy for even the most caring parent to get distracted with the never ending list of things-to-do. There are many opportunities to find out how your children are doing or how they’re feeling during the day. When we can suspend our busy’”ness” and sit down with our children and have a conversation, we gain a valuable opportunity for connection. Giving your child your undivided attention daily helps to strengthen your relationship and provides the opportunity to intervene if needed.

These 3 tips may seem simplistic or even common sense to many parents, but as I talk with parents on a daily basis, I see a common thread of familys being overwhelmed by the demands of life. Offering your children structure is the one of the best ways to provide a sense of predictability and helps them to prepare for the increased emotional, cognitive and physical demands they are faced with daily during the school year.

We hope these tips will be helpful and would love to know your thoughts!

Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover

I am excited to share my first post of the Mom Tested, Mom Reviewed product review and contest. My review today is for the Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover. My first exposure to the benefits of having a nursing cover came with my first son several years ago. Being a newbie, I didn’t realize there were great conveniences, such as nursing covers, that made a nursing moms life alot easier. Back then, I used a flannel receiving blanket to nurse my son and while the receiving blanket was very convenient, easy to care for and traveled easily, it was not the most effective. Nursing my son on a warm day, the poor baby would be sweating from the trapped heat. And as soon as he got a little older, it was like taming an octopus trying to nurse him and at the same time keeping control of the moving legs and arms and blanket that was destined to expose my “mama goods” to the world (or so it seemed!!) . I was later introduced to the Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover this past year after the birth of my daughter. Not only did I fall in love with the assortment of unique colors and designs, but being able to drape the cover over my neck allowed me to have the freedom to use my hands for other tasks (other than holding onto the receiving blanket). The Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers are made in a wonderful lightweight cotton and are generous in size, making them comfortable for both baby and mom. The generous size and their unique “D” Shaped neck ring allow you to be able to use the nursing cover also as a shield for protection on hot days or cool evenings, works as a handy changing pad for those diaper emergencies and is so easy to care for….just toss in the wash with the rest of your babys laundry. I have enjoyed nursing my little girl this past year using the Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover. It is definitely worth the price tag of $35.00.
